I was looking for a machine I could take camping. When The day turns rainy, I could be piecing my quilt tops for winter quilting. When it arrived I put it to work, tried all the stitches and sewed through several types of fabric. It is deffinatlly a GEM. I really believe in having good quality tools. My husband always says the right tool for the job gives you pleasure in using it, and this tool will be use lot and with great pleasure. I also purchased the 1/4 inch foot. All I can say about it, is that is AWESOME. So happy with the purchase and the customer care, they answered all of my questions before I decided to buy my GEM. Happy Sewing
Due to medical conditions, I have not been able to carry my regular sewing machine to quilting class, which is a requirement of the class and which means I have not been able to take the class. This little sewing machine, which only weighs 12 lbs. is perfect. And don't let the size fool you. It's a really nice machine and fits my needs perfect.
I had looked at much more expensive machines, but decided to give this one a try. And I love it!!
I love IT!!! I needed a light weight machine to take back and forth to quilting classes and retreats. This is it. I bought the quilting packing and cover with it, and I am so good to go on traveling with my machine. I am planning on taking my machine with me when I go on vacation to visit family this summer, this way I can sew while they are at work. I was so please with this machine that I bought another one to keep sit up all the time in my sewing room.
I have had this sewing machine for about 10 years now and still absolutely love it. When I was in high school I decided that I wanted to learn how to sew, so my mom took me to the local sewing center. They recommended this machine as perfect for a beginning sewer. My mother has a degree in textiles and is a very accomplished sewer. She owns an expensive Pfaff with a million and one functions, but even she was impressed by this little machine. It sews amazingly straight and accurate lines. It is very user friendly and made learning to sew easy. It is also super lightweight, so I could easily carry it to and from my sewing or quilting classes. I am now a much better sewer than 10 years ago, but I haven't seen much need to upgrade to a newer machine. This one still suits my needs just fine.
Even though I am an experienced quilter and do most of my piecing at home on my Bernina, I dread taking it to classes and my quilt group because it is so heavy. I have two sets of stairs to carry it down to get to the car and recently have been asking my husband to carry it down for me. I can lift the Janome Jem Gold with one hand! It sews a very nice and accurate quarter inch seam. And it was only $189.00 with free shipping. I am the third person in my quilt group to purchase this machine and several more are expressing interest. If you aren't ready to invest in a Singer Featherweight then this is the machine to buy. The Janome Jem Gold is very simple to operate and could make a good first machine for a young person just learning to sew as well.
