This is my second Janome machine. I've sewn everything from light weight cottons, knits, and home decor fabric with great success.
I have this identical machine, only it has the Kenmore logo on it (built by Janome). I bought it when Sears was phasing out of their sewing machine business, so paid only $150 for it. The best features are that it sews "as smooth as butter" -- like a dream. The stitches are perfect and even, and it's quiet. It actually makes nicer stitches than my Janome MemoryCraft machine which cost around $2K. This is the machine that I take to quilting retreats and other similar functions, and I'm always impressed by how well it sews. This also has a narrower throat / harp / whatever-it's-called, which is fine for me since I don't do machine quilting or anything else that requires the extra space. It has fewer fancy decorative stitches, too, but I don't use them much anyhow. If I had to make a choice between this and the MemoryCraft for daily hard use, I'd choose this one.
What it doesn't have that my Janome MemoryCraft has is a thread cutter, which sounds silly. But the cutter saves thread, and after cutting, leaves the needle in the "up" position to extract the fabric. A smooth operation.
I love this machine. It’s a work horse for piecing for quilts. I’m a newbie and really found my confidence with this machine.
Great machine. Love it... I ran my Brother csi6000 into the garbage can within 6 months because I use difficult fabrics and multiple layers and I sew A LOT! I have had this machine for several months now and so far this one can take the amount of sewing I do without flinching!
Great machine! Love it!
