I have had this machine for 4 years and I have to say it was one of the best purchases I have ever made. I replaced a 25 year old Kenmore when the bobbin winder quit working. The only thing I dislike is that it isn't capable of being installed into a sewing cabinet. Things I love most that I never considered wanting----needle threader------thread cutter------needle up and down button--------and the best of all is the speed selector. You need the highest speed to wind a bobbin but I never use it for anything else. Most of my sewing is at a medium speed and then if I am top stitching or sewing doll clothes, I use the slowest speed. I have had a little trouble with thick fabric but have learned how to use a jean-a-ma jig and it is doing much better. My old machine came with different throat plates and I do miss that because thin fabric tends to go into the larger hole that my old machine would only have on zig zag stitches, but I have learned to adjust for this. I would recommend this machine to any of my friends. I am about to try my first quilt and I am excited that based on other reviews, I can use this machine to quilt it. I do recommend buying the kit of bobbins with the case. I have probably enjoyed having so many bobbins as much as I have in having the machine. I only use about 5 of the stitches but I didn't buy it for the variety of stitches. I wanted a good bobbin winder and I got so much more!
The Janome DC2013 was purchased to replace my 20+ year old Brother sewing machine. So far, I love it. I've used it for simple home decorating projects but, that said, even the simplest projects can involve multi-layers of fabric: lining, interlining, etc., and this machine has handled it well. The only thing I would change is the pressure foot; if it could be raised a bit higher, starting the seam of these extra-thick projects would be easier. Once everything is in place, though, the machine is great. The motor is strong, it is easy to both wind bobbins and thread and, overall, is a real pleasure to work with.
Dont hesitate to buy this machine. It is absolutely worth the money, I have enjoyed every moment i have used it.
Super quiet, super strong, a joy to use.
I am thoroughly pleased with this sewing machine! I have been interested in getting into quilting for several years, but hadn't pursued it because I didn't own a sewing machine and hadn't used one since Home Ec class twenty years ago. Luckily for me, I have a friend who invited me to attend a quilting club meeting with her and I got a chance to quiz the ladies about what they were using and what to look for in a sewing machine. The Janome was the top pick from the ladies polled so I came home and started shopping. I also called my mom, only to find out that she has been using a Janome for years, too! What better endorsement than mom's?
Decision made, I completed the purchase and my Amazon Prime shipping had it at my door two days later. I like this machine for the ease of use, the array of accessories that comes with it, and the number of stitches and options. It was easy enough for this newbie to set up and use, but has lots of goodies that will make it a machine I can grow with in the future. After pulling it out of the box, reading the instruction manual, and learning about all the parts and programming the stitches, I was able to thread it and start a few test seams in under 30 minutes.
I've really enjoyed getting to know my new toy and just completed my first ever project, a quilted top 20" throw pillow, just yesterday. I'm going to upload a pic of the finished project if Amazon will let me. I highly recommend this machine. Happy stitching!
So, I have had the machine for a month now and have completed several small projects (table runners and wall hangings) with it to get my feet wet. I have to say that the longer I use it, the more I love this machine. I've found changing stitches and programming length/tension/speed to be just an absolute breeze...truly as easy as the description says. It has been fun playing around with some of the more complex stitches, and boy, once you find *just the right* length for whichever fancy stitch you happen to be using, they come out beautifully. I'm convinced that this machine is helping me look good and cover a lot of beginner mistakes just because the stitches come out so even. It is super user friendly. Couldn't be happier with my choice!
After my 30 year old Singer machine went out, I was in the market for a new computerized machine. I looked at several and tried out a few in a local shop. They wanted to sell me a Brother, but the stitches on that machine reminded me of the toy sewing machine I had as a kid. I tried the Janome Magnolia (great machine) and was sold on Janome, but wanted more features. I eventually ordered the DC2013 online (long story-tried to buy locally, but no one would call me back). This machine is a dream. It has a great stitch and stitch selection is a breeze. The attachment feet just drop off and snap on, making it easy to swap out. The needle threader is easy to use, once you get the hang of it. The instruction manual is easy to follow. I've already done several projects that I would have dreaded tackling on my old machine. And it comes with a ton of attachments! I couldn't be happier!
