What's so special about COMFEE™ Gourmet Sewing Chairs?
Stump's COMFEE™ sewing chairs and hassonettes are the finest sewing seating made today. That's because they are first and foremost "Real Furniture", solidly built from premium materials throughout. They boast the simple beauty and durability of authentic premium quality furniture. At the same time COMFEE™ sewing chairs have unique features that make them ideally suited for the demanding rigors of sewing and crafts.
Principal among these is comfort. Sewing and crafts activities often require long hours of "active sitting." COMFEE™ sewing chairs are legendary for their comfort among dealers who demonstrate sewing machines all day long. One of the keys to their unfailing comfort is the use of multi-layered, multi-density foam cushioning. You'll never "bottom out" on a COMFEE™ sewing chair.
Furthermore, each and every COMFEE™ sewing chair, hassonette, and stool has built-in storage capability. This is extremely handy for storing a variety of on-the-spot necessities and work aids, such as patterns, threads, notions, fabrics, etc. The larger COMFEE™ models, the "deep well" series of hassonettes, even have enough under-seat storage to hold an entire serger sewing machine. When you're not using your serger, you're sitting on it. Great for people who don't quite have enough space.
Perhaps most important, COMFEE™ sewing chairs consistently offer consumers the highest value in return for dollars spent. Proudly made in America.
About the Wood
The COMFEE™ sewing chair, hassonette, and stool are real furniture; made from real and genuine hardwood. The COMFEE™ sewing chairs are made from solid, premium grade American ash hardwood.
Why use ash and not oak? Because even though the graining characteristics of ash and oak are very similar, ash is the superior wood. It is all around tougher than oak and finishes better than oak. And while American white ash ash is renowned for its beautiful graining and finishing traits, its highly valued and most prized characteristic is its resilient hardness and strength.
Why Midwestern American ash in particular? As a Forestry Department expert recently said, "... the world comes to Indiana for its wood." There's a special kind of magic in the Indiana soil and climate that produces the highest quality hardwoods unmatched anywhere in the world.
And did we mention that Indiana ash hardwood grows in our very own back yard? Well, very close to our very own back yard. So naturally we like Indiana ash hardwood a lot. And we use it in abundance in the production of the nine different models that make up our COMFEE™ line of sewing and crafts chairs.
By the way, while you're admiring the quiet strength of our COMFEE™ solid ash construction, take a closer look at the extraordinary COMFEE™ finish. Extraordinary is the only word that adequately describes this superb finish.
About the Finish
The secret to the extraordinary COMFEE™ finish, of course, begins with the wood itself. Each finished wood part in a COMFEE™ sewing chair begins life as a solid piece of natural Indiana ash hardwood. Each piece is machined into shape through an exact series of cutting and shaping procedures.
Our "Walnut" finished pieces, a coat of custom blended mid-tone stains, the first of three finish coats, is applied and allowed to dry.
At this point in the procedure, each piece receives a sealer coat, which is allowed to dry. Next, in preparation for a final finish coat, each part must be sanded again, this time with hand attention, using an extra-fine grit. This careful, final hand sanding restores the wood's initial smooth sanded finish, which was lost in the application of the initial finish coats.
Finally, a generous clear topcoat is applied and allowed to dry. It is this final topcoat that gives the COMFEE™ finish its remarkably warm and lustrous quality. It's a difference you can both see and feel.
But there's even more to the story. The choice of material used in the final top coat of the COMFEE™ finish is every bit as important as its skillful application. The material we use is called a catalyzed finish, one in which the components undergo a chemical reaction during application.
In the world of fine furniture finishes, it is the catalyzed finish that offers the greatest protection from the broadest range of harmful household substances. It is not indestructible, but it is highly resistant to water damage, discoloration, sun damage, and marring. The result is a beautiful, yet extraordinarily durable finished surface.
In the end, it's not perfection, but the pursuit of excellence that distinguishes COMFEE™ brand sewing furniture from its rivals. You can be proud of your new COMFEE™ Sewing Chair. We were proud to make it for you... right here in America.

I contacted SewVacDirect, Mr. Barczynski, and he contacted the manufacturer for me. Mr. Stump contacted me with a price of replacement leg. Within FOUR days I had a new leg shipped and on its way to me. I cannot say enough for both Mr. B and Mr. Stump. They were so helpful and responded quickly. I LOVE my chair and have enjoyed the comfort of it for many years. I look forward to many more. Best chair EVER for comfort. Thanks again to both companies for excellent service.
