Great, dependable sewing machine
This is a great sewing machine: it's an update of the one my wife has had for over a decade. It's a little tough to get set up, but once you're past that, it works pretty well! I'm not an expert by any stretch, so this has way too many options for me to ever fully go through.

Luxurious sewing machine for unlimited creativity
I am absolutely in love with this Brother Designio sewing machine. I have never had my own so this is quite the luxurious sewing machine for me as a beginner sewist. UPDATED: I took a class at JoAnn's to become confident threading the needle and bobbin, and I just completed my first pillow, which I am thrilled about. This machine is superb to use - it has controls to keep the needle speed at a slow pace so I can get comfortable sewing again, it has quilting AND regular sewing machine attachments, and the book does a solid job of explaining the machine. It's very sleek and attractive, and ridiculously responsive. I found that it took me about 5 or 6 tries to get the needle threading part down, but it gets easier. I highly recommend this amazing sewing machine, and I cannot wait to learn quilting too!

Great Sewing Machine!
This is a great machine for someone with a lot of ideas. It can create a wide variety of decorative embroidery stitches beautifully on medium weight fabrics, thinner fabrics with a backing or thin to medium weight leather with a backing. The machine is lightweight, but powerful enough to hem jeans or sew through a few layers of leather. It can also monogram, which is great for making personalized items. There are a few font styles and they come out evenly. One detail that seemed overlooked in the video and manual is that you can easily adjust the bobbin width by slightly loosening the screw on top of the bobbin winder/stopper and turning the stopper to the desired width. In the video, it shows so little thread wound on it that I was worried that it only wound small bobbins. This machine is really easy to use and it will make a nice addition to the ones that I already have.

Daunting for a newbie
It will be a while before I can fully comprehend, let alone appreciate, the things this machine can do. It is truly sophisticated and as such, not the best machine to buy for a beginner. The process of assembly was pretty intimidating, and then figuring out how to make it work was only a little less so. However, persistence pays off because once you figure it out, this machine can do just about everything but clean your house and feed your pets.

Quality, Versatility and Value
I used to sew regularly, but hadn't been able to, since my 30+ year old sewing machine started acting up. I noticed that Brother sponsors a fashion show I watch, so I figured their machines were good. I was right! My new Brother Designio Series machine works beautifully. I love the computerized display and integrated flip chart, which makes it easy to select stitches and know what presser foot to use. The machine is very easy to operate, but does require that you read the instructions carefully, since not all sewing machine brands work exactly the same. However, the instructions are easy to read and are accompanied by detailed illustrations - there's even a customer help line! The machine comes with a wide range of accessories, so you can make button holes, embroider, quilt, and much more. I also like the fact that it is light and includes a storage case. I highly recommend this Brother sewing machine.
