I bought this machine to replace a 10 year old Singer Simple. It is a carbon copy of the Singer inside with a few minor changes. The machine is made in Vietnam. The Old Singer out of the box never put down a consistent stitch and was plagued with tension problems. I am a long time sewer I just don’t need another computer causing problems, so a basic machine. Within the first minute of sewing a loud ratchet sound like a cog belt slipping on a pulley. So had the Singer apart many times cleaning and oiling. Yup all the screws in the same places. The noise was the two main screws holding the motor were completely loose! Could have been vibration in shipping or? The machine was well oiled with nothing else found amiss except the screw holding the needle was so tight it was all most stripped out. The machine has a nice LED light. Back together again, stitches after setting the tension, the bobbin tension so tight it was breaking the thread. Tried sewing different layers of different kinds of materials. The switches seem to be fairly consistent but in no way perfect. The machine did not show any tension problems from thickness to thickness, but doesn’t seem to like tight weave cotton where it had the most stitch weave problems from stitch to stitch. It was not excessive though. Bottom line better than the old Singer, might want to live real close to a dealer. Less features and more money.
