If space is not a big concern, sew-aficionados like you will love the Arrow 98701 Bertha sewing cabinet. This arrow sewing cabinet comes in three finishes: white, cherry, and oak, which allows you to choose an option best suited to match your home decor and aesthetics.

The Arrow Bertha cabinet is a bit on the heavier side, weighing approximately 146 lbs. When open, it has the dimensions of 84 inches wide x 39-3/4 inches deep with the quilt leaf extended x 30-1/2 inches high. Folded up, it has a much smaller footprint of only 42 inches wide x 19-3/4 inches deep x 31-1/2 inches high which allows you to fit it into a smaller space.

As a larger-sized sewing cabinet, the Bertha is a cabinet that will hold larger and heavier sewing machines, with an airlift that can hold a machine up to 45 lbs. The airlift offers three different sewing machine placements: storage, free-arm, and flatbed. There is a quilt leaf attached at the back edge of the cabinet to hold your larger projects.

On the left side of the basic machine cabinet is an extension leaf that can be slid on a metal rod for positioning. The Bertha allows you to sew in any position, lessening the strain on your eyes, neck, back and hands. If you need storage, the Bertha has got you covered with her 8 notion trays on the inside of the doors.

This cabinet which rolls around on locking casters can be neatly folded up, allowing you to have a clean room afterwards. Use this Arrow cabinet as an accent piece or console table when not using it to sew.

The Arrow 98701 Bertha also comes with a manufacturers defect warranty, lasting for 3 years from the date it is shipped and a 15-day shipping damage warranty.

An Extraordinary Sewing Cabinet - Arrow 98701 Bertha!

  • Sew in any position.
  • EZ-Lift air mechanism lets you sew flatbed or free-arm at any height. Also provides easy, effortless storage with a simple push and holds a 45lb. machine!
  • Made to fit new larger heavier sewing and embroidery machines. Opening accommodates machines up to 22 9/16" W x 11 3/4" deep.
  • Sew comfortably with correct posture avoiding stress on your hands, back, and neck in any position by sitting in front of your needle for center needle sewing.
  • Quilt leaf included, extends your work area another 5 square feet behind the cabinet. Your seam construction can be longer and straighter using the quilt leaf because larger fabric won't bunch on the floor and drag your needle.
  • Cut out in front allows for machine knee lifters to be used comfortably.
  • Plenty of storage with 8 notion trays on the inside of the doors.
  • Durable design with composite construction and wood grain laminates.
  • Full cabinet doors conceal the sewing machine and sewing accessories - quilt leaf folds up on back of cabinet, so when fully closed the cabinet is neat and compact.
  • Locking casters for excellent portability and stability.
  • Assembly is a snap! Requires a standard screwdriver, adjustable wrench and hammer/mallet.
  • Includes easy-to-follow instructions, plus a friendly toll-free help number.

Machines that will not fit / Not recommended:

This lists the sewing machines that Arrow knows do not fit or are not compatible with the Bertha cabinet model 98700, 98701 and 98702.

Baby Lock

  • Destiny

  • Dream VX8500D

  • eXpressive 920 -
    • The sewing machine width of 23.5” is longer than the platform of the Bertha cabinet and the same width as the opening.

  • 15,000, Horizon Memory Craft 15,000
    • The sewing machine width of 23.5” is longer than the platform of the Bertha cabinet and the same width as the opening.

  • Designer Epic

The following machines fit, but with issues:

Baby Lock

  • Ellissimo (BLSO), Ellissimo Gold (BLSOG), Ellissimo Gold 2

The handles of the BabyLock Ellissimo are wider than the opening of the Bertha cabinet and in order to put the machine into the storage position, the handle must be upright when lowering the platform. Then the machine must be tipped forward to allow you to fold the handle down. This must be done in reverse to bring the machine up.

  • Series 7- 780, 750 QE, 710

The machines will fit the opening and platform of the cabinet but the height of the machine does not allow the top right leaf to close completely when the machine is in storage position.

  • Quattro 3 Trilogy LE Innovis 6750D, Quattro 2 7600D, Quattro, NV6000D & NV6500D

The handles of the Brother Quattro are wider than the opening of the Bertha cabinet and in order to put the machine into the storage position, the handle must be upright when lowering the platform. Then the machine must be tipped forward to allow you to fold the handle down. This must be done in reserve to bring the machine up.

*These machines are ones that have known fit issues. Please be advised that this list will change as new models are introduced. It is extremely important to measure your machine prior to ordering to make sure it will fit.

    Arrow sewing machine cabinet Bertha

Posted by Helen Frame on 29th Aug 2021

My cabinet was delivered to my door in 3days. I did not give it 5 because the magnetic closure is not strong enough to keep doors closed. I have to replace them. All the pkgs of screws need to be labeled! Sure they can be matched up but after about 10 times, it is frustrating to keep doing that for another set! Also. Flaws in sequence of instructions: For example … screw storage containers to The front doors. Do that And then attach hinges to the doors. whoops… storage covered up the hinge are. NOW unscrew The container storage and apply hinges and THEN attach to the doors. Other examples. But those need to be edited. Too nice a product to have those negative issues! I do love the cabinet and waiting for my insert. Helen

    98701 Sewing Cabinet and insert

Posted by Brenda on 5th Feb 2019

I love this cabinet, and really loving the drop-leaf table. My sewing room is in a smaller bedroom so I had limited space. With this table I have been able to remove a large cutting table that took too much space in the room. I use one side leafs for a smaller cutting mat and i use the other side leaf with a smaller ironing pad. The drop leaf table will also works with my 36x24 cutting mat and lot's of room for my fabric cutter. The lift works great. My husband was able to make the needed adjustments to get everything flush.I received my insert today and I am so excited that now all is complete and works perfectly. Thank you for some great products.

    Worth the money

Posted by Customer on 13th Dec 2018

Very heavy. Difficult to put together and instructions are of little help. Items poorly marked and hard to differentiate. However, once together, it is most wonderful. Lots of storage space, nice to be able to lower my machine and lessen the shoulder pain I get when sewing for long periods. If there is an option to pay for assembly, I would recommend it.

    Wife loves, easy to assemble

Posted by RichS on 12th Dec 2018

After reading some of the other reviewers complaints about assembly, I was a little apprehensive about putting this together. I followed the step by step directions and had no issues. It took about 3.5 hours. More important, my wife loves it.

    Love it!

Posted by stork on 12th Dec 2018

All parts arrived in good condition. I love it and it fits my Baby Lock Unity perfectly. Sure it would be nice to have solid wood instead of engineered wood, but I didn't have a couple thousand more $. I watched the assembly video on YouTube. It did take most of the day for me to put it together, but I like that sort of thing. If you fill out the questionnaire in the box, Arrow will extend the warranty another year for a total of 4 years.

I am 5' 2 and 1/2" and may need to sit on a pillow to be high enough to be comfortable. I could buy an adjustable chair

Posted by Bonnie on 12th Dec 2018

I haven't had a chance to use the cabinet yet. The biggest problem I see so far is pushing the air lift up/down. It is extremely difficult for me to push it down, especially with the machine on it. Also the advertised height of the cabinet listed may have been taken without the wheels. I am 5' 2 and 1/2" and may need to sit on a pillow to be high enough to be comfortable. I could buy an adjustable chair, but my feet may not touch the floor which would be a problem. I like the cabinet, took my son and husband 3 hrs to assemble. They mentioned some of the instructions weren't too clear, but I did not see them struggle, they figured it out. I was impressed how customer service contacted me right after I received the cabinet to make sure it arrived in good condition. I told them that one of the box edges was smashed and was not sure if the contents were affected. They contacted me again to make sure that everything was ok; which it was. The packaging has a lot of Styrofoam and fold cardboard to help protect the contents.

ARROW will replaced pieces damaged by shipping

Posted by Elle on 11th Dec 2018

Generally, I think the cabinet will come together well. But, there was significant damage to the boxes and three of the wood pieces were damaged. I have been trying to get in touch with Arrow for new pieces, but I have not been successful yet. Hopefully, they'll get me undamaged pieces so that I can actually put the cabinet together. Arrow does put tons of slips in the boxes giving you instructions to call if pieces are damaged/missing. UPDATE: I just spoke with a very nice representative at ARROW. They will be sending out replacements for all of the damaged items. So, I'm updating this review to 5 stars for the great, quick customer service!
