This is the 1st Stage large particle permafilt pre-filter on your Austin Air unit. It removes particles easily seen by the naked eye (e.g. dust, hair and pet dander). This filter should be replace every 2-3 years. By vacuuming the filter off regularly (vacuum through the perforated steel housing) will allow this filter to last longer and will help your Austin Air system perform it's best.
